COMPARISON OF CANDIDATES

Voters deserve to know the details about candidates’ proven values and relative capacities to get the job done. After all, voters are essentially hiring a Mayor to do a job that makes an enormous difference in our community. Experience, comparative records of success, and proven commitments to principled action should matter a great deal in making that hiring decision.

rocky on salt lake city ISSUES

I hope that knowing about my achievements, proven commitment to principle, and calls for profound changes in Salt Lake City government will help you determine who you want to lead Salt Lake City beginning in January 2024.
As in all I have done, as Mayor of Salt Lake City, I will build the team and collaborate with others to get the job done in a way that will transform our community to become, once again, the city we all deserve.

HOMELESSNESS CRISIS

Rocky favors a central camp and alternative  shelter sanctioned by the City that would provide safe, decent toilets, showers, laundry facilities, food, outreach workers, and access to mental health and addiction treatment, such as the camps in Denver or the Courtyard at Haven for Hope in San Antonio.

HOUSING SOLUTIONS

The mayor and city council have a solemn duty to be responsible stewards of our neighborhoods and to achieve, through careful, innovative planning and execution: (1) sufficient mixed-income affordable—including “deeply affordable”--housing, with abundant open spaces, as is achieved in many nations around the world with nonmarket housing; (2) a standard of design excellence for a built environment we can all enjoy and of which we can all be proud; and (3) the preservation of the character of our diverse neighborhoods in all areas of Salt Lake City.

LAW ENFORCEMENT & PUBLIC SAFETY

Rocky changed the culture of the SLCPD during his two terms as Mayor, making it clear that good police should be respected and appreciated by the community, but that police who abused their power or failed to perform their jobs would face accountability.  Rocky will work with police leadership to ensure officers receive proper training, including de-escalation and crisis intervention  training.
